Enabling Authenticated SMTP for Linux E-mail Clients

Evolution (Redhat Linux)

  • Launch Evolution application
  • From the Tools menu, select Settings
  • Click on the Mail Accounts tab then select your account and click edit
  • Click forward until you get to the sending mail window
  • Ensure use secure connection (SSL) is set to none
  • Check the box for server requires authentication
  • Type your email username in the Username field
  • Check the box for remember this password
  • Click forward to the end of the setup assistant

 Thunderbird

  • Launch Thunderbird application.
  • From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.
  • Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the left column
  • Select the appropriate account and click the Edit… button
  • Ensure your Server Name is specified
  • Ensure the Server Port used is 25
  • Ensure the box User name and password is checked
  • Type your e-mail username in the User Name field
  • Click the OK button

 

Mozilla Mail

  • Open a Mozilla window.
  • From the Edit menu, select Account Settings.
  • Scroll down to Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the left column
  • Check the box for use name and password
  • Type your e-mail username in the User Name field
  • Click the OK button
