Dear Customer,

As of February 12th, 2007 Cable & Wireless will be enforcing Authenticated SMTP for our email service. This has become necessary to reduce SPAM originating from our network.

When Authenticated SMTP is enforced, your email program must send a correct username and password to the server when it sends mail, so that the server can verify who is sending the message.

The following objectives will be achieved by enforcing Authenticated SMTP:
  1. To prevent denial of service due to blacklisting by other ISPs
  2. To protect the ISP (C & W) from serving as a Unsolicited Bulk Email (UBE) injection point via third-party relay
  3. To help in tracking accountability for message submission in the case where a customer sends UBE
  4. To help enforce a legal requirement:
"Unsolicited e-mail messages, including but not limited to, bulk commercial advertising and informational announcements, is explicitly prohibited."
Please click the link for your operating system at the bottom of this page, and then select your email client for specific instructions.

If your client is not listed, please send an email to authenticatedsmtp@candwall.com. Please complete the configuration before February 12th, 2007.

Cable and Wireless thanks you for your understanding and cooperation in this important matter. If you have any questions or concerns, kindly contact us on 1 800 804 2994.

Sincerely,

C&W Support Team
